The rural
master swordsman is ready to take up his legend. The anime's production team on
Wednesday revealed the first promotional video and visual teaser for the second
season of From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman (Katainaka
no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru), confirming that it is scheduled to premiere
in July 2026. The series will air through TV Asahi and its
affiliates, as well as on BS Asahi.

For this
new installment, the main team that worked on the first season will return to
maintain the continuity of the work. Akio Kazumi (Loner
Life in Another World) will return to direct the series at Passione and Hayabusa
Film studios. The scripts will again be in charge of Kunihiko
Okada, with character design by Satsuki Hayasaka and music
composed by Yasuharu Takanashi.
Other key
returning staff members include Nozomu Koga and Masaru
Kawashima as assistant directors, and Taiki Yamashita as
art directors.
About
the franchise
The first
season of the anime premiered in April 2025 and is streaming exclusively
on Amazon Prime Video globally. Shigeru Sagazaki's original
story began on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website in November
2020, and was later published by Square Enix with
illustrations by Tetsuhiro Nabeshima.
The
universe of the series has recently expanded with spin-off mangas such as The
Beginning of a Magic Swordsman in Manga UP! and Ryusoken no
Kiseki in Young Gangan magazine.
