The creator
of Jujutsu Kaisen has finally revealed the reason behind his
strict digital silence. The reason why Gege Akutami doesn't use social
media is as honest as it is hilarious: he simply couldn't contain
himself. In a recent reflection shared with fans, the enigmatic author
confessed that his absence on platforms such as X (Twitter) or Instagram is a
measure of self-protection... against himself.
The fear of fighting: Why Gege Akutami doesn't use social media
"I
find it very difficult to talk to a lot of people online. If I was too active,
I would definitely end up arguing with high school students about my
manga," joked the Jujutsu Kaisen mangaka. Akutami acknowledged
that, if he had an official account, he would probably waste time debating
plots and creative decisions with teenagers aged 12 to 15, a scenario he
prefers to avoid to maintain his mental health.
Prefer
cards to "Likes"
In addition
to avoiding viral conflicts, Akutami explained that the constant praise on the
internet is overwhelming for him. "I would feel excessively
embarrassed," he admitted, noting that such a level of immediate feedback
would interfere with his concentration. For this reason, he values much
more the physical letters of the fans, a traditional medium that
allows him to connect with his audience without the toxic noise of digital
immediacy.
Considering
the intensity of the fandom following the series finale in 2024, it seems that
the decision to stay away from the keyboard was the sorcerer's smartest move
behind the work.
