The road to the
final battle could be longer than anticipated. According to a recent report
by The Guardian newspaper, the long-awaited second and third
installments of the Kimetsu no Yaiba: Infinity Castle film
trilogy are scheduled to debut in 2027 and 2029,
respectively.
The information
comes after comments from Mitchel Berger, an executive at Crunchyroll,
who highlighted the massive success of the franchise at the global box office.
Although these release windows would be ideal to maintain the production
quality of ufotable, the official distribution has not yet issued a
definitive statement on the matter.
Crunchyroll's
official stance
It is important to
note that, to date, Crunchyroll has not confirmed these years
of release through its official channels. In fact, last September, CEO Rahul
Purini commented that while they feel the urgency to release the films
as soon as possible, their partners at Aniplex and ufotable had
not yet decided on the exact dates. The situation is still awaiting a direct
update from the production committees.
The beginning
of the end
The trilogy is
directed by Haruo Sotozaki, who has led the adaptation since its
inception. The story picks up the events right after the Pillars training. As
the members of the Demon Hunter Corps prepare for the impending battle, Muzan
Kibutsuji breaks into the Ubuyashiki Mansion.
With the organization's
leader in danger, Tanjiro Kamado and the Pillars come to the
rescue, only to be dragged to the Infinity Castle, the demons'
dimensional stronghold. There, the stage is set for the ultimate showdown
between humanity and the upper moons.
