The monster menu will be served soon on TV. Animation ID announced Tuesday that the webtoon adaptation of the light novels Monster Eater (Mamonogurai no Bōkensha), written by Renkinō, will receive its own adaptation to the "Light Anime" format. The series is scheduled to premiere in April on the Tokyo MX channel.

Along with the announcement, a teaser promo video and the key visual were revealed. The project will be directed by Hikaru Satō under the production of IMAGICA Infos and Imageworks Studio, with the supervision of Kazuya Takahashi.

The story follows Rudd, an adventurer with the unfortunate nickname "The Grimy Collector" due to his stench of exploring noxious labyrinths thanks to his status immunity. When he is finally recruited by a group, it turns out to be a trap: his supposed allies use him as bait against a monster and abandon him to his fate.

Wounded and on the verge of death, Rudd breaks a forbidden taboo to survive: eating monster meat. However, he discovers that the more he devours, the more power he gains, starting a thrilling fantasy of gourmet adventures.

Origins of the work

Renkinō released the original story on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō site in March 2023, with Earth Star Entertainment publishing the physical novels. The franchise has two graphic adaptations: the webtoon released in LINE Manga in June 2024 (on which this anime is based) and a traditional manga illustrated by TATE in Manga UP!.
