The journey to Ende continues with new music and renewed direction. TOHO animation released the main promotional video for the second season of the anime adaptation of Sousou no Frieren on Sunday, revealing that the band Mrs. GREEN APPLE will perform the opening theme titled "lulu."

The trailer confirms that the series will premiere on January 16 within NTV's "Friday Anime Night" block, with international streaming secured through Crunchyroll. Additionally, it was announced that Kazuhiko Inoue is joining the cast to voice the legendary Hero of the South.

Although the Madhouse studio returns for animation and Evan Call returns to compose the soundtrack, there are significant changes in the creative leadership:

  • Tomoya Kitagawa takes over the role of principal conductor, taking over from Keiichirō Saitō, who is now listed on "directing support".
  • The character design is in the hands of a team made up of Takasemaru (stage name of Akiko Takase, known as Violet Evergarden), Keisuke Kojima and Yuri Fujinaka.
  • The milet singer returns to the franchise to perform the ending theme, "The Story of Us."

About the work

The original manga by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe is currently on an indefinite hiatus since October 2025 due to the health of the authors, although its popularity remains intact with more than 30 million copies in circulation. The story follows the elf mage Frieren, who after defeating the Demon King, must learn to understand humans and the passage of time in an introspective and melancholic journey.
