One of the
most iconic voices in the industry will take a much-needed break. The
production of the anime Detective Conan announced that Wakana
Yamazaki, who has played the female lead since 1996, will temporarily step
down from the role of the voice of Ran Mouri due to health
issues. In her place, veteran actress Akemi Okamura will take
on the role.
The change
will be effective from the episode scheduled for March 14, 2026.
However, it was confirmed that Yamazaki has already completed filming for the
upcoming film, Detective Conan: Highway no Datenshi, so his
performance will remain in the April 10 theatrical release.
Details
of Ran Mouri's voice change
The TMS
Entertainment production team prioritized the actress's recovery,
indicating that they will closely monitor her medical condition.
Meanwhile, Akemi Okamura, recognized worldwide for being the voice
of Nami in One Piece, will fill the vacancy.
A
historic exchange
This
replacement has caught the attention of fans due to a curious historical
coincidence between the two actresses:
- In 2001, Wakana
Yamazaki temporarily replaced Akemi Okamura as the voice of Nami in One
Piece (episodes 70-78) during her maternity leave.
- Now, in 2026, the
roles are reversed, with Okamura covering Yamazaki in Detective
Conan.
The exact
duration of this substitution has not been specified, but the staff expressed
their desire to hear Yamazaki's energetic voice again once he has fully recovered.
