GATE 2: Tides of Conflict anime reveals new trailer and confirms premiere in 2027

After years of waiting, the Japanese Self-Defense Force is once again crossing the portal. Anime platform Oshi released a new trailer for the anime for GATE 2: Tides of Conflict, the sequel to the animated adaptation of Takumi Yanai's light novels, confirming that the series will debut on television during 2027, without specifying the month.


The trailer also confirms the return of Yoshiaki Fujisawa, composer of the first installment, to be in charge of the music of the series again.

The production will be in charge of Studio M2, with Toru Takahashi directing, known for Orphen: The Revenge and Inari Kon Kon. The scripts return to the hands of Tatsuhiko Urahata, who was already in charge of writing the first season of GATE. The character design is signed by Shigeru Fujita, known for his work on Monster and Pluto. The production is supported by Kasagi LaboOshi and GENCO.


As part of the announcement, a "Fan Experience Campaign" was also launched through the Oshi platform, which seeks to connect creators, licensees and fans in the same ecosystem, offering exclusive behind-the-scenes content and early access to new productions.



What is the story about?


Based on Jieitai Kano Umi nite'SEASON2 GATE novel series, Kaku Tatakaeri, the story places us behind the reopening of the mysterious "Portal". The Japan Self-Defense Forces resume their diplomatic and scouting missions in the Special Region, a realm parallel to our world. However, tension erupts when an American journalist is kidnapped in the turbulent seas of this territory, forcing an elite Japanese maritime unit to undertake a high-risk rescue mission.


About the work


Takumi Yanai serialized the original story on the Arcadia website between 2006 and 2009, before AlphaPolis published it in physical format in five volumes and five volumes of side stories between 2010 and 2015. The first anime adaptation came in 2015, with a second season in 2016. The novelized sequel, GATE Season 2, has five volumes published between 2017 and 2020.
