Pochita did
it again and in what a way! In a move that makes it clear who is in charge in
the current industry, the film Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc has
just broken the piggy bank and surpassed the barrier of 10.56 billion yen at
the Japanese box office. We're not talking about just anything: with this
figure, the MAPPA adaptation goes straight to 47th place of
the highest-grossing films of all time in Japan, giving a lecture in
profitability to Hollywood productions that cost three times as much and
grossed half as much.
Since this
little gem landed in theaters, the "explosive waifu" Reze
has done nothing but add zeros to the studio's bank account. The film has been
clinging to the Top 10 for 16 consecutive weeks, something that only true
titans achieve. And no wonder, the combination of MAPPA's artistic direction
with Tatsuki Fujimoto's story has caused more than 6.5 million people in Japan
to go see how Denji loses his mind (and his heart) for a girl who is literally
a bomb. The craziest thing is the return on investment: with an estimated
budget of $4 million, this thing is a banknote printing machine.

de Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc y su éxito mundial
But the
phenomenon did not stay on the island. Globally, the film has already
accumulated more than 174.7 million dollars, hitting hard in South Korea and
the United States. To give you an idea of the caliber, in its North American
premiere it surpassed established horror franchises, proving that anime is no
longer a niche, it is the mainstream. It even surpassed what Jujutsu
Kaisen 0 did in several territories, getting dangerously close to the
numbers of beasts like Mugen Train.
Here are
the technical data confirming the "Reze Supremacy":
- Japan gross: $10.56 billion (about $71
million).
- Historical Ranking: Ranked #47 in Japan
(surpassing thousands of live-action films).
- Global Box Office: $174.7 million USD (and
counting).
- Budget vs. Profit: It cost ~$4M, generated
more than 40 times its value.
- Reception: Score of 4.4+ on
MyAnimeList and AniList; Top 1 of 2025.
- Music: Kenshi Yonezi's
"Iris Out" reached #1 on Billboard Japan.
About
Chainsaw Man
For those
who have been living under a rock, this film adapts the arc of Reze (the Bomb
Girl), one of the most beloved and visceral moments from Tatsuki Fujimoto's
original manga. The story follows Denji, our favorite demon hunter with
existential crises, who meets Reze, a girl who seems to understand him, but who
hides an explosive secret. The film has been praised for maintaining the raw
tone, black humor and aesthetic violence that characterizes the work, all
enhanced by the performances of Kikunosuke Toya (Denji) and Reina Ueda (Reze).
And be
careful, this does not stop here. The massive success of the film has already
secured the future of the franchise: MAPPA confirmed the second season for the
end of 2026, where we will see the International Assassins arc. So get your
wallets ready for the merch, because we have Pibe Motosierra for a while.
