The official website of the animated adaptation based on the light novel I Made Friends with the Second Prettiest Girl in My Class (known in Japan as Class de 2-banme ni Kawaii Onnanoko to Tomodachi ni Natta) confirmed this Sunday that the series will premiere on April 7.

This announcement was accompanied by a second promotional visual image and a new trailer. The trailer served to reveal that singer-songwriter Koresawa will be in charge of performing the ending theme of the series, which is titled "Zutto Ichiban ni Shitene".

The animation work is carried out by the Connect studio. In the director's chair is Hideki Tachibana (who worked on Busou Shoujo Machiavellianism), with the backing of Takumi Shibata (episode director at Little Witch Academia) as assistant director. Keiichirou Oochi (Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru. Kan) oversees the series' composition and scripts, while Shouko Takimoto (Ore wo Suki nano wa Omae dake ka yo) adapts the character designs. The musical team is quite robust, consisting of composers Ruka KawadaShuuhei Mutsuki and Yayoi Sekimukai.

What is the story about?

The protagonist ends up befriending the second prettiest girl in his class, not the most popular. What seems like a minor situation becomes the starting point of a romantic comedy where school dynamics, misunderstandings and feelings that no one knows how to express carry the weight of the story.

About the original work

Writer Takata began publishing this romantic comedy independently through the Kakuyomu website in November 2020. Its success earned it to be acquired by the Kadokawa publishing house, which began printing it under its Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko imprint in December 2021, adding the illustrations of the artist Tom Osabe. The eighth volume of the novels went on sale on October 1, and the ninth volume is scheduled for release on April 1.

Along with the novels, artist Rin Ono has been publishing a manga adaptation in the web magazine Alive+ since July 2022, whose seventh compilation volume was published by Kadokawa in December 2025.
