About
the work
The story
takes place in a fictional kingdom heavily inspired by ancient China, where the
five main clans send their most capable young women to become the prince's
consorts, knowing that only one of them will be able to ascend the throne as
empress. The plot takes a drastic turn when two of these young rivals
mysteriously swap bodies, forcing them to forge an unusual alliance and use
their wits to survive the deadly intrigues of palace life.
The
original work, written by Satsuki Nakamura, began publication in
light novel format in December 2020. His popularity allowed him to quickly
expand the franchise with a manga adaptation that is currently in
serialization, cementing the story of mystery and historical romance among
Japanese readers.
