Icy landscapes and supernatural mysteries are about to come to life on the small screen. An official website was launched today to announce that Aki Irie's acclaimed mystery mangaGo with the Clouds, North by Northwest (Hokuhokusei ni Kumo to Yuke), will receive a long-awaited animated television adaptation. To celebrate this milestone in the franchise, the author, who is world-renowned for her previous work on Ran and the Gray World, shared a beautiful commemorative illustration that captures the unique atmosphere of her work.

The eventful but successful publishing journey

The arrival of this anime coincides with a crucial moment of restructuring for the manga. The story began publication in March 2016 in Harta magazine, then moved to Aokishi (from Kadokawa) in 2021. After the suspension of its serialization in February 2025 in that magazine, the new publishing house Yukiwariso took the reins to save the project.

Under this new imprint, the manga will continue exactly where it left off, but in the format of a "second series" that restarts the volume count, giving creators a clean canvas. Precisely this Thursday, the first compilation volume of this new editorial stage will go on sale in Japan, revitalizing the franchise at the perfect time.

What secrets does Iceland's icy landscape hide?

If you've never read the original work, you're in for a fascinating mix of mystery, drama, and slice-of-life moments. The plot takes place in the remote and beautiful landscape of Iceland, at coordinates 64ºN. There we follow the life of Kei Miyama, a 17-year-old boy who makes a living working as a private investigator and who keeps three big secrets: he is terrible at dealing with pretty girls, he suffers personal tragedies and, surprisingly, he has the supernatural power to talk to cars.

What begins as a series of curious assignments, such as searching for a client's lost dog or helping a woman reconnect with her love at first sight, soon takes a much darker and more personal turn. Kei will end up using his deductive skills and his peculiar magic to face the most important case of his life: tracking and finding the whereabouts of his own missing younger brother, in a journey that will take him to the coldest corners of the world.
