If you're an old-school otaku, get ready to take a direct hit to nostalgia. One of the most iconic tsunderes in anime history is ready to wield her sword once again. Developer CTW Inc. just surprised everyone by announcing Shakugan no Shana Blaze Edge (or just Shana Blaze), a new browser game based on the legendary light novels by Yashichiro Takahashi.

The Return of the Flaming Hair Hunter

To the joy of the pockets of the gaming community, the title will adopt the classic free-to-play model with integrated microtransactions, and the pre-registration phase is now officially open. The game will bring us back to the inseparable Shana and Yuji Sakai, immersing us again in the eternal war against the invaders of the Crimson Kingdom, who have come to Earth to devour the "Power of Existence". The premise remains intact: controlling reality itself is at stake, and only a short girl with fiery eyes and a ridiculously large sword can save the universe.

A legacy that refuses to disappear

This release is no coincidence, as it comes just in time to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the television debut of the first anime, which aired back in 2005. It should be remembered that the Japanese entertainment industry has been reviving this franchise little by little. The original novels, illustrated by Noizi Itō, concluded their main story in 2011, but it was only in November 2023 that we received a new surprise volume after 11 years of publishing drought.

With three anime seasons behind it (2005, 2007 and the finale in 2011), Shakugan no Shana remains one of the fundamental pillars of the action, romance and urban fantasy genre. Now, longtime fans and new generations will have the perfect excuse to relive this mythical story directly from the comfort of their browsers.
