Kazuki Atsumi, voice actor of My Dress-Up Darling, was arrested for abusing a minor

An extremely delicate and disturbing piece of news has just shaken the dubbing industry in Japan. Tokyo authorities on Thursday confirmed the official arrest of voice actor Kazuki Atsumi, thirty-one, on charges of continuous sexual assault against a young woman of just fifteen years old. The most serious thing about this case is not only the young age of the victim, but the context in which the unfortunate events occurred, since the defendant took advantage of his job position in a care center to commit these crimes behind the backs of his co-workers.

An unforgivable breach of trust

According to the investigators' report, Atsumi worked as a staff member at a temporary child protection shelter in the Adachi neighborhood. It was exactly in this place where she met the victim approximately two years ago, when the young woman entered the facility seeking a safe asylum after suffering domestic violence in her own home. Instead of providing him with the necessary support for his recovery, the police investigation indicates that the actor began an inappropriate relationship with the minor at the end of July last year. This terrible situation was kept in total secrecy for almost a year and even continued after the girl left the help center, culminating on May 9 when he took her to a hotel in the Ikebukuro area, knowing perfectly well that the legal age of consent in the Asian country is sixteen years old.

Immediate consequences on his career

During intense interrogations with the police, the man ended up accepting the charges, admitting to the officers that he had relations with the minor on at least thirty different occasions. Given the undeniable seriousness of the matter, his representation agency, Mausu Promotion, did not hesitate for a second and announced the immediate termination of his contract for a severe violation of his ethical standards, removing any trace of his profile on his official website. Although his career was just taking off, the actor had managed to get some supporting roles in series much loved by the public such as My Dress-Up Darling. For its part, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government offered a public apology and assured that they are already conducting a thorough audit inside the shelter to rule out the possibility that other children have been victims of this individual during their time in the facility.

These types of crimes generate enormous outrage in the international community, especially knowing that they occurred within a place designed precisely to keep the most vulnerable people safe. Knowing that the Japanese government is urgently reviewing safety and surveillance protocols in all of its children's shelters
