If you
thought that Bandai Namco was going to give you a break to get
your wallet back on its feet after the box office success of 2024, you were the
wrong franchise. During the Gundam Conference SPRING 2026 held
on May 15, the directors dropped a bombshell for the otaku band fan of mechs:
the production of a new animated film titled Mobile Suit Gundam SEED
FREEDOM ZERO, which will serve as a direct prequel to the film that broke
records last year.
What makes
this news a true nostalgic gem is not just the fact that it has more content
from the Cosmic Age. It turns out that this new installment is built on a
scenario written during the initial stages of planning by Shigeru
Morita himself and the late and legendary composer of the
series, Chiaki Morosawa. Basically, we are facing a work that will
respect 100% the original vision of its creators. Although the event only left
us with a video teaser to warm up, they already made it clear
to us that the heavy details of the plot and the cast will be falling in the
coming months.
Synopsis
of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO
Being a
prequel film, the plot will chronologically place us just before the explosive
events seen in the hit film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM (originally
released in January 2024 in Japan). The story promises to fill in the plot gaps
and explore the political conflicts, human drama, and strained relationships
between the key characters of the Cosmic Age. Through this journey into the
recent past of the SEED timeline, viewers will discover the exact triggers and
secret machinations that ended up dragging the protagonists into the brutal war
we witnessed on the big screen.
