If there
was a studio today that could take an untouchable franchise and give it a
spectacular facelift, it's Science SARU. The legendary
cyberpunk saga is back and Bandai Namco Filmworks has just
released the third official trailer for Ghost in the Shell,
confirming that this beast of animation will land in the summer season on July
7. And hold on, because this new trailer not only lets us see the brutal
visual quality they load, but also reveals the renewed designs of our favorite
cyborgs.
The
distribution of this little jewel comes with everything. Before it hits
Japanese television in the new "Ka-Anival!!" night block, lucky
people attending the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in
June will be able to see the first two episodes as a world premiere. For the
rest of the mortals, the Amazon Prime Video uncle put on the
cape and will have the series exclusively for almost everyone. In Japan, they
will even have the episodes a little before their broadcast on TV, so spoilers are
going to be the order of the day on social networks.
New
Blood for Section 9 Veterans
What has
attracted the most attention is the team they put together for this restart.
The direction is in charge of Mokochan, who makes his great debut
as a main director after blowing our minds as an animator in DAN DA DAN.
The redesign of the characters, which includes legends such as Motoko Kusanagi,
Batou, Togusa, Aramaki and even the friendly Fuchikoma, fell into the hands
of Shuhei Handa, famous for his work in Little Witch
Academia. For its part, the script is being supervised by novelist Toh
Enjoe, ensuring that the philosophical dilemmas of the work remain intact.
Seeing
Major Kusanagi back in action has a rather bittersweet touch for the community,
remembering that her unmistakable and legendary original voice, Atsuko Tanaka,
sadly left us in August 2024. It will be a huge generational change for an
anime that redefined the science fiction genre.
Synopsis
of Ghost in the Shell
In a
cyberpunk future where technology has advanced to the point of allowing
humanity to replace parts of their bodies with cybernetic prosthetics and even
transfer their consciousness to artificial brains, the line between man and
machine is almost imperceptible. The story follows Major Motoko Kusanagi and
Public Security Section 9, an elite force specializing in combating cyberterrorism
and high-tech crime in hyper-connected Japan, all while facing profound
existential dilemmas about what it really means to possess a soul or a
"ghost."
