The genre
of dark fantasy and visceral action will add a powerful original proposal to
television. Production company Pony Canyon announced on Friday the production
of Maiden Blood, a new anime series for television directed
by Seiji Kishi whose premiere is scheduled for 2027.
The announcement was accompanied by the release of a first teaser, a
promotional image, the main voice cast, and the key names of its creative team.
The story
takes us to the consequences of an Armageddon whose prophesied destiny was
altered. The desperate desire for human survival bestowed unbridled power on
the Evil God, sacrificing eight billion people and leaving a handful of
survivors as playthings of the dark entity. For the first time since the origin
of the universe, the process of world renewal (Frashokereti) has failed.
Without
sunlight and on a planet plunged into madness, the only resource of value is
human blood, serving as currency, fuel and weapon. In the face of horror, the
mages develop a forbidden art capable of transforming the blood of a young
woman into a demon-destroying blade. The plot follows sisters Eva (unable
to walk since birth) and Epica (the most powerful blood
warrior whose soul was taken away). In this desolate world, Eve's blood is the
only thing capable of awakening Epica's latent power to exterminate the demonic
hosts.
Voice
cast and an elite creative team
The main
voice actresses will bring the two protagonist sisters to life:
- Iori Saeki will play Eva.
- Yukari Anzai will lend her voice to
Epica.
The
animation of the series will be in charge of the renowned studio
Polygon Pictures, under the direction of Seiji Kishi (Persona
4, Assassination Classroom, Angel Beats!). The
script and composition of the series will be under the supervision of Makoto
Uezu (KONOSUBA, Kengan Ashura), while the original
character designs are the work of famed illustrator LAM (takt
op. Destiny).
In the
musical section, the soundtrack will feature the collaboration of prominent
composers such as Keiichi Okabe (NieR:Automata Ver 1.1a), Kuniyuki
Takahashi and Taichi Joraku, with the musical production
of Pony Canyon and the support of the MONACA company. Satoki
Iida will also serve as sound director for the project.
