Those who are following the crazy experiences of the most tobacco-addicted feline week after week will have to arm themselves with a little patience. The production committee of the animated adaptation of Yanineko (Chainsmoker Cat) surprisingly announced that the broadcast set for August 27 will not feature a regular episode, but will be replaced by a special program headed by the voice cast of the series.

The news came just moments after the eighth episode aired on August 20. Although the production did not offer a specific reason for this change of plans, it was confirmed that the long-awaited ninth episode will formally hit screens on September 3. Details about the contents that will be addressed during the special show starring the seiyuus will be revealed at a later date, so viewers will have to make do with this intermission before continuing with the main plot.

Based on the original manga by Nyannyan Factory, published in the pages of Kodansha's Young Magazine, this crazy story places us in a world where humans and beast people live together on a daily basis. The plot follows in the footsteps of Yani, a lazy, unkempt cat girl and heavy smoker who drags a chaotic lifestyle inside an apartment building full of equally quirky neighbors. The series began its broadcast at the beginning of July 2026 under the animation of Bibury Animation Studios, with the direction of Taku Kimura, scripts by Takashi Aoshima and character designs by Riki Matsuura.
