Japanese animation lost one of its most dedicated and passionate workers behind the scenes. The official website of the anime The Insipid Prince's Furtive Grab for The Throne confirmed the sensitive death of director and animator Yuji Yanase at 59 years of age, news that dismayed the community because he was directing two projects in simultaneous broadcast.

According to the official statement, the death occurred on August 22 due to a myocardial infarction, holding a private funeral surrounded only by his closest relatives. The most shocking thing about his departure is that it occurred while Yuji Yanase was leading two productions during the summer season of 2026, being at the helm of The Insipid Prince's Furtive Grab for The Throne and The World's Strongest Rearguard - Labyrinth Country's Novice Seeker.

Yanase's career spanned nearly four decades of uninterrupted work. He took his first steps in the late 1980s as a key and intermediate animator, participating in legendary productions such as the film Akira, the feature film Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's Dorabian Nights and the series Kaze o Nuke!. Over the years, his talents led him to take on supervisory roles on high-caliber projects such as Macross 7The Legend of ZorroTenchi Universe, and Tetsujin 28-go FX.

During the 1990s and 2000s, Yanase cemented his reputation as an animation director and key collaborator on cult works. Its history includes episodes of memorable comedies such as Saber Marionette J and Fancy Lala, the satire Excel Saga, the dark action proposal Hellsing, the science fiction romance Chobits, the thriller Mezzo, the peaceful Aria the Animation and the combat musical series Symphogear.

After decades of experience at the drawing board, Yuji Yanase made the definitive leap to general management in 2014 with the short comedy Himegoto, followed by Onsen Yosei Hakone-chan in 2015. His consecration in the television format came in 2017 when he took over the reins of the anime In Another World With My Smartphone (Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni), becoming a specialist for fantasy and isekai adaptations.

Subsequently, he was at the helm of very popular titles among fans of the genre such as If It's for My Daughter, I'd Even Defeat a Demon Lord (2019), By the Grace of the Gods (2020) and its second season, as well as In the Land of LeadaleMy Unique Skill Makes Me OP even at Level 1I'll Become a Villainess Who Goes Down in History and Apocalypse Bringer Mynoghra. His style of work was characterized by total dedication, actively participating as a key animator and episode director even in the series he directed completely.
