If the food in your palace is trying to kill you three times a day, the most logical solution is not to hire a poison taster, but to escape to the forest to hunt monsters for dinner. The popular light novel series Monster no Niku wo Kutteitara Oui ni Tsuita Ken (How I Became King by Eating Monsters) will make the definitive leap to television with its own anime adaptation, which will be in charge of none other than the renowned WHITE FOX studio for its premiere in 2027.

The story introduces us to Mars, the first prince of the kingdom of Farune, who at twelve years old lives in constant paranoia inside his own castle. Almost every dish he is served contains lethal doses of poison planted by his political rivals, forcing him to sneak into a dangerous forest inhabited by wild creatures. To avoid starvation, the young prince begins to hunt and devour the flesh of these beasts, discovering by accident that this unorthodox menu grants him a massive increase in physical power with each bite.

The little boy's life takes an even more drastic turn when he runs into a mysterious red-haired woman carrying a giant greatsword in the middle of the night. Seeing the boy's enormous potential, the warrior decides to take him as her apprentice to teach him to master his new abilities. Thanks to this demanding training, the prince not only learns to defend himself from the constant assassination attempts at court, but ends up getting involved in a massive conflict that threatens to destabilize the entire nation and the entire continent.

Monster no Niku wo Kutteitara Oui ni Tsuita Ken is a series of light fantasy and survival novels written by Daken and illustrated by Shiba. The story was originally born on the Shosetsuka ni Naro web portal in early 2022, before being acquired by Micro Magazine's GCN Bunko imprint for print publication from September 2023. The work also has a manga adaptation drawn by Karin Suzuragi since January 2024, adding between both formats more than 250,000 copies in circulation.
