When it
comes to royal dramas where betrayals, romance, and palace gossip are pushed to
the limit, few stories have caused as much global buzz as this one. During its
panel at New York Comic Con, Crunchyroll paralyzed the public by officially
announcing that the famous romantic fantasy webtoon The Remarried Empress
will have its own anime adaptation, which will premiere on television during
2027.
The
production of the project will be in charge of the renowned TROYCA
studio, with the direction of Tetsuya Yanagisawa. The supervision and
writing of the scripts will be led by Akiko Inoue, while Jun Nakai
will be in charge of bringing the impeccable design of the characters to the
animation and Yuki Fukazawa will be in charge of the musical
composition.
In the
voice section, the series will bring together renowned acting figures in Japan.
Actress Yoko Hikasa will play the dignified and elegant protagonist
Navier, while Ryohei Kimura will lend her voice to the charming Prince
Heinrey. On the other hand, Tomoaki Maeno will take on the role of the
unbearable Emperor Sovieshu and Queen Ueda will give life to the
manipulative Rashta.
The story
places us alongside Navier, the perfect empress of the Eastern Empire, whose
life takes a drastic turn when her husband, Emperor Sovieshu, betrays her to
make his lover Rashta the new ruler. Far from crying over the humiliation,
Navier makes the final decision to demand a divorce and remarry Prince Heinrey,
retaining her title of empress in another kingdom and starting an impeccable
play of dignity and power.
The
Remarried Empress
is a celebrated fantasy and romance story that was originally born as a web
novel written by Alphatart, later being adapted to the webtoon format
with art by HereLee and SUMPUL. Since its release, the work has
become a massive international phenomenon, accumulating more than 2,970 million
readings worldwide and being translated into more than ten languages.
After seven
years of uninterrupted publication, the main story of the webtoon formally
concluded last January, marking a milestone within digital platforms. However,
fans of the work are celebrating, since in addition to the expected
announcement of the animated series, the manhwa will return this fall with new
chapters focused on secondary stories.
