Dan-Katsu shows his first trailer: he loses 8,000 hours of gameplay and ends up reincarnating

Losing a saved game can be one of any gamer's worst nightmares, especially when you've been playing for thousands of hours. But what if the scare was so great that you ended up dying and reincarnating within the same video game? That's the peculiar premise of Reincarnation in the Game World Dan-Katsu, whose anime adaptation has just unveiled a new promotional trailer along with four additional voice cast members. The series is scheduled to premiere in January 2027 on Japanese television.

The trailer begins precisely with the disappearance of the protagonist's saved data, to then show him enjoying his new life within the video game he knows so well. It also allows you to listen to a fragment of Play the Play, the opening theme performed by MindaRyn, while the group LINKL PLANET will be in charge of the ending entitled My Life Story. Of course, there is also no shortage of the first appearances of the four girls who will accompany the protagonist during his adventures.

A gamer who knows all the secrets of his new world

The story follows a video game enthusiast who dedicated more than 8,000 hours to Dungeon Shukatsu no Susume, a huge RPG popularly known as Dan-Katsu. The title features 1,021 character classes and over 400 different endings, so mastering it takes quite a bit of time and patience. However, after losing all his save data, the protagonist dies from the impact and wakes up inside the video game itself, where he will now have the opportunity to start a new game from scratch.

The funny thing is that, unlike other isekai protagonists who barely understand the rules of the world they arrived in, our gamer already knows practically all its secrets. Under the name Zephyrus, he manages to obtain the powerful Hero class and begins recruiting companions to explore dungeons, get equipment, and form a guild. And considering the number of hours he spent studying every corner of the game, monsters will probably have more reason to worry than he does.

The anime introduces its four new heroines

As for the voice cast, it was confirmed that Yuto Uemura will play Zephyrus, an actor known for giving life to Thorfinn in Vinland Saga and Atsushi Nakajima in Bungo Stray Dogs. He is joined by four actresses who will play the companions that the protagonist will meet during his adventures:

  • Hanna: Ayaka Nanase, known for playing Yoshino Koharu in Sakura Quest and Cure Butterfly in Soaring Sky! Precure. Her character is a childhood friend of Zephyrus who dreams of becoming an alchemist.
  • Saw: Kotone Izumi, who previously voiced Nova on WIXOSS DIVA(A)LIVE. She will play a young woman from a noble family who possesses an exceptional talent for using shields.
  • Wool: Hikaru Iida, recognized for playing Kotone Fujita in the video game Gakuen Idolmaster. Her character will be a princess who wishes to obtain the Santa class.
  • Esther: Chihaya Asakura, who will give voice to the knight in charge of protecting Lana since her childhood.

As for the production team, Nagisa Miyazaki will be in charge of directing at STUDIO MASSKET studios, while Yuji Kobayashi will be in charge of the composition of the series and writing the scripts. At the moment, those responsible have not announced an exact release date beyond January 2027.

It should be recalled that Kaede Nishikigi's original story began publication in January 2021 through the Kakuyomu portal, before receiving an edition as a light novel under the TO Books label in March 2022, with illustrations by Shuri. The franchise currently has 16 volumes published and also received a manga adaptation illustrated by Hiroshi Asagi, which began serialization in April 2022.
