It seems
that punching magicians is no longer enough for Mash Burnedead, because now he
will also have to do it with flesh and blood actors. It was officially
announced that Mashle: Magic and Muscles will have a live-action film,
based on the popular manga by Hajime Komoto. The production will arrive in
Japanese theaters on March 19, 2027, accompanied by a first promotional
image that keeps the identity of the lead actor a secret.
The poster
shows Mash from behind, wearing his trademark Easton Academy of Magic uniform.
However, instead of a magic wand, our muscular protagonist holds a dumbbell,
making it quite clear that his methods of solving problems will remain the
same. For now, the actor who will play Mash will be revealed on November 5,
while the director and the other cast members have not yet been announced.
Kingdom
producers to work on Mashle's live-action
As for the
production, Warner Bros. and Fuji TV will be in charge of the project, while CREDEUS
will be in charge of the production. The latter company has experience
bringing popular Japanese stories to the big screen, including the live-action Kingdom
films and productions such as Kokuho. For its part, TOHO will be in
charge of distributing the film in Japan.
Warner
Bros.'s involvement is also curious considering that the company was behind the
Harry Potter films, a franchise with which Mashle often shares
comparisons for its school setting and magical world. Although, of course, here
we have a protagonist who prefers to resolve any conflict using his muscles
rather than learn a single spell.
For those
who don't know the story, Mashle: Magic and Muscles is set in a world
where magic determines virtually every aspect of society. The problem is that
Mash Burnedead was born without the ability to use it, so he has spent much of
his life training physically while living hidden in the woods with his adoptive
father. When his existence is discovered, he ends up entering a prestigious
magic academy, where he will attempt to become a Divine Visionary using only
his superhuman strength.
It should
be recalled that Hajime Komoto's original manga was published in Shueisha's Weekly
Shonen Jump magazine between January 2020 and July 2023, concluding with a
total of 18 compilation volumes. The franchise also received an anime
adaptation from A-1 Pictures, the first season of which premiered in April 2023
and the second in January 2024. The latter gained special notoriety thanks to Bling-Bang-Bang-Born,
the catchy opening theme performed by Creepy Nuts.
As if that
were not enough, the third season of the anime will arrive in January 2027,
just two months before the premiere of the live-action film. This means that
fans will have quite a bit of content from the franchise during the first few
months of next year. At the moment, no details have been revealed about which
part of the manga the feature film will adapt or if it will be distributed
outside of Japan.
