Can you
imagine spending thirty years locked in your room watching anime and, when you
leave, you find someone identical to your favorite husband? Well, it seems that
not even vampires are spared from this type of situation. It was officially
announced that Otaku Vampire's Love Bite will have an anime
adaptation, based on the manga by Julietta Suzuki, the renowned author of Kamisama
Kiss. The announcement was accompanied by a first trailer and a promotional
image, although a release date has not yet been confirmed.
The
illustration shows Hina, the protagonist of this peculiar romantic comedy,
resting happily inside her coffin while she is surrounded by merchandise of her
favorite character. He even appears with a bag of blood, as it turns out that he
considers it unhygienic to drink directly from humans. On the other hand,
the promotional video uses illustrations from the original manga to introduce
the characters and some of the situations they will star in.
An otaku
vampire who could fall in love with her husband
The story
follows Hina, a vampire who spent thirty years locked in her room and who
eventually decides to move to Japan to fully enjoy her life as an otaku. His
obsession began after discovering Vampire Cross, a fictional anime whose
character, Mao, ended up becoming the love of his life. And like any
self-respecting fan, Hina is willing to do pretty much anything for her beloved
character.
However,
things get complicated when he meets Kyuta Amanatsu, his new neighbor, a
rather attractive and somewhat foul-mouthed boy who turns out to be practically
identical to Mao. As if encountering a flesh-and-blood version of her husbando
wasn't enough, Kyuta also possesses a special blood that attracts vampires from
all over the world.
Thus begins
a coexistence where Hina will have to deal with her feelings for Kyuta, while
other vampires appear with the intention of getting her blood. The problem is
that our protagonist is not even clear if she is really falling in love with
him or if she is simply confusing romance with her obsession with fictional
characters. And considering that she's been locked up consuming anime for three
decades, she's probably having a hard time finding the answer.
It should
be recalled that Otaku Vampire's Love Bite, known in Japan as Oshi ni
Amagami, began as a self-contained story published in April 2022, before
starting its serialization in November of the same year in Hakusensha's Hana
to Yume magazine. The manga currently has ten compilation volumes,
while the eleventh will arrive in Japanese bookstores on November 20.
For her
part, Julietta Suzuki is especially known for Kamisama Kiss (Kamisama
Hajimemashita), a supernatural romantic comedy that she published between
2008 and 2016, and which received two seasons of anime. He is also responsible
for works such as Detective Koko Is Melancholy, so romance stories with
rather peculiar characters are not exactly something new in his career.
At the
moment, the animation studio and the voice cast that will participate in
this new adaptation have not been revealed. There is also no confirmed release
window, so we will have to wait for future announcements to know when we will
be able to see the romantic misadventures of this otaku vampire.
