The girls
of Togenashi Togeari are packing their bags, although it will hardly be to take
a vacation. Toei Animation revealed a new trailer and promotional image for Girls
Band Cry the Movie, confirming that the film will be released on May 21,
2027 in theaters in Japan. And from what we can see in the trailer, Nina
and her companions could be about to take their problems, arguments and
concerts far beyond the scenarios we know.
The
interesting thing is that this time it is not another compilation film. Unlike
the two feature films released during 2025, the new production will tell an
original story that will continue the adventures of the band. The first
trailer even shows the protagonists traveling through different regions of
Japan, while Nina excitedly announces a possible national tour of Togenashi
Togeari.
Girls
Band Cry will take their concerts all over Japan
Although a
full synopsis has not yet been revealed, the trailer hints that Togenashi
Togeari could embark on a national tour, taking his performances to
different cities. The images also recover some of the confrontations and
moments that marked the first season, reminding us that these five girls have
never been exactly the best at resolving their differences without arguing.
Of course,
there will be no shortage of musical presentations either. The trailer shows
new concert sequences and anticipates the presence of unreleased songs, so the
film will have more opportunities to take advantage of one of the aspects that
made the original series stand out: its musical performances made using CG
animation.
As for the
voice cast, the return of the five main members of the band was confirmed: Rina
as Nina Iseri, Yuri as Momoka Kawaragi, Mirei as Subaru Awa, Natsu as Tomo
Ebizuka and Shuri as Rupa. It should be remembered that the actresses are also
part of the real version of Togenashi Togeari, so they play both the
characters and the songs of the franchise.
Regarding
the production team, Kazuo Sakai will return to direct, accompanied
again by Jukki Hanada in the scripts. The latter is known for his work in
productions such as Love Live! School Idol Project and Sound!
Euphonium. For his part, nari Teshima will continue to be in charge of
character designs, while Kenji Tamai and Yusuke Tanaka will once again
participate in the musical section.
Girls
Band Cry will also have a stage adaptation
But the
news doesn't end with the film. Those responsible also announced that Girls
Band Cry will have a stage adaptation, whose performances will take
place from March 21 to 28, 2027 at the Sunshine Theatre in Tokyo. In addition,
Togenashi Togeari's royal band will perform a concert on March 20 at the
K-Arena Yokohama, just one day before the start of the theatrical performances.
It should
be remembered that Girls Band Cry began as an original anime by Toei
Animation released in April 2024, with a total of thirteen episodes. The story
follows Nina Iseri, a student who drops out of high school and moves to Tokyo,
where she ends up forming a band with four other young women who have not had
much luck in their lives either. Between personal problems, arguments and
songs, the protagonists try to find a place where they really belong.
The
franchise returned to theaters in 2025 with two compilation films, but this new
installment will be the first to develop an entirely new story for the big
screen. For now, an international release has not been confirmed, so
fans outside of Japan will have to wait for new announcements about its
distribution.
