About the attack on Kyoto Animation in 2019
On July 18, 2019, a devastating fire broke out in the first studio building. A total of 70 people were inside the facilities during the attack, which ultimately ended the lives of 36 people and left 36 injured. In addition to these victims, a 40-year-old man who was on his way to work and was passing by the area was also injured.
The Kyoto Prefecture Police Department arrested a 41-year-old man who allegedly used gasoline to start the fire, and the case is still being investigated as "arson". The man allegedly bought 40 liters of gasoline in two jerrycans and used a cart to transport them inside the facility. Police have not yet formally prosecuted the man, as he is still in the hospital recovering from his injuries. The suspect is now under rehab and can already communicate.
The Kyoto Prefecture Government is currently in the process of determining the distribution of 3,314,438,000 yen (approximately $ 30 million) in donations to the injured and the families of the victims of the fire.
