Although both Microsoft and Sony Interactive Entertainment insist that they will release their respective Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 consoles in late 2020, the truth is that the third parties have not resolved very well how or when they will announce their respective proposals for this year, also considering whether the most prudent thing will be to release now or until there is more clarity with the sanitary restrictions that exist worldwide.
Added to this are the possible restrictions on titles in Japan, and not due to the pause in its development, but because the CERO classification commission is still closed, as previously reported (although in the United States and Europe the ESRB and PEGI continue to operate, although remotely).
But there is hope. Reliable report from leading video game analyst Daniel Ahmas (who focuses on the China and Asia regions) stated:
Ahmas indicates that announcements will not be limited to "E3 2020 week" (June 9-11), but could now be announced much earlier or much later, and that there will especially be news about PS5 and Series X "much earlier" than the expected. With E3 cancelled, a lot of the planned reveals / announcements have been moved out of that single week.— Daniel Ahmad (@ZhugeEX) April 19, 2020
Some are now much earlier, others much later. Some still during E3 week ofc.
The first proper next gen console/games showcase is much earlier too.
In fact, the specialist speculates that Sony's plan to announce important elements of the PS5 premiere may be postponed due to the pandemic and a “change of strategy” by the brand, which, some fear, may imply the frank delay of the console.
What will be the decision of big developers and distributors like Bethesda, Square Enix, Capcom, Konami and Electronic Arts?
