On the official Twitter account for the Anime Expo event, new members and invited companies were announced for the Anime Expo Lite edition, which will take place between July 3 and 4. The organizing committee had previously confirmed the participation of Bushiroad, Crunchyroll, Pony Canyon and Viz Media.

In this new notification, the participation of the distribution company Aniplex, the manufacturer and distributor of figures Good Smile Company and the animation studio Trigger stand out.


The original event was planned to take place in a convention format between July 2 and July 5, but this was canceled due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States and restrictions on holding massive events. 

Ray Chiang, the CEO of the SPJA, announced the cancellation of the event since April 17 and stated that the sponsors and attendees would have the option to request their refunds or transfer their participations for the 2021 edition, which is also scheduled to take place. between July 2 and 5 of that year. In addition, he asked for patience in the process of reimbursement and renewal, since the pandemic itself would also be delaying the process.

Subsequently, on May 24, the organizing staff of the event decided to change its format and carry it out online, with information panels being presented through a 48-hour live broadcast.
