In the July issue of Shueisha publisher Jump SQ magazine, the production team for the anime Shin Tennis no Ouji-sama: Hyoutei vs. Rikkai - Game of Future, the new series based on the manga written and illustrated by Takeshi Konomi, Tennis no Ouji-sama.
- Keiichiro Kawaguchi (ISLAND) is in charge of directing the anime.
- Mitsutaka Hirota (Anime-Gataris, Nanbaka) is in charge of writing and supervising the scripts.
- Akiharu Ishii (Blood +, Gunjou no Magmell). Is in charge of character design.
The project marks the 20th anniversary of the anime adaptation and will feature an original story supervised by the manga's author, Takeshi Konomi, and will pit these two schools for the first time. No release date or animation format (anime / movie) has been revealed.
About the Prince of Tennis
The franchise started as a manga series written and illustrated by Takeshi Konomi and published in Shueisha editorial Weekly Shonen Jump magazine between July 1999 and March 2008, with 379 chapters and 42 compilation volumes.
The play previously inspired an anime adaptation directed by Takayuki Hamana at Trans Arts and Production I.G studios, which had 178 episodes aired between October 2001 and March 2005, as well as an animated film. The series continued its story through three seasons of OVAs released in April 2006, June 2007, and January 2008, respectively.
However, the franchise has also been adapted in numerous other media. Since April 2003, more than fifteen plays based on the series have been produced. An animated film was released in 2005 and a live-action film in 2006. The franchise also has a radio show, numerous video games, and more than 250 original songs and CDs. In January 2012 alone, the manga had already accumulated 51 million copies in circulation.
It was not until March 2009 that a sequel manga titled New Prince of Tennis (Shin Tennis no Ouji-sama) began publishing in Shueisha's Jump SQ magazine, with the story taking place several months after the end of the original manga. .
Synopsis
The world of tennis is cruel and very competitive. Many schools in Japan compete to determine which is the best of all. Seishun High School, better known as Seigaku, is one of the most prominent contenders in the battle to see who is the best. His team is only getting stronger when a young western prodigy named Ryouma Echizen, who is determined to emerge from the shadow of his father's success, joins the team.
The story follows Ryouma's warm and inspirational life in his quest to become one of the best tennis players in Japan. He tries so hard to someday exceed his father's name and his own expectations.
