The Australian Classification Board indicated that sales and imports of the first, second and ninth volumes of Yuu Kamiya's light novels No Game No Life , have been strictly prohibited in Australia.

The board rejected the classification of the novels on July 23, and stated regarding the rejection of the first and second volumes:
Pubs 1 (b): The publication is classified as RC (Refused Classification) according to the National Code of Classifications, Publications Table, Subsection 1. (b), for being a publication that" describes or represents in a way that it is likely to offend a reasonable adult, a person who is, or appears to be, a minor under the age of 18 (whether the character in question is sexually active or not) .
Additionally, for the prohibition of the ninth volume, the board made the following argument:
“ Pubs 1 (a) & (b): The publication is classified as RC (Refused Classification) according to the National Code of Classifications, Publications Table, Subsection 1. (a), as it is a publication that“ describes, represents , expresses or otherwise addresses matters related to sex, drug use, crime, cruelty, violence or disgusting or abhorrent phenomena, in such a way as to offend the standards of morality, decency and decorum generally accepted by reasonable adults ”and (b ), for being a publication that “ describes or represents in a way that is likely to offend a reasonable adult, a person who is, or appears to be, a minor under 18 years of age (whether the character in question has sexual activity or no) " ".

According to the Australian Classifications Board website, securities classified as rejected “cannot be legally sold, rented, advertised or imported into Australia. Material classified as RC contains content that has a very high impact and is outside of generally accepted community standards.

The Board had previously restricted the anime adaptation of the No Game No Life light novels as "MA 15+" for including strong sexual themes as of August 13, 2015. The series is "legally restricted to persons over 15 years of age" , but it is available for sale to the general public. The Board also restricted the film No Game No Life Zero as “M” for fantasy themes and animated violence as of November 10, 2017. While the Board states that the film is “not recommended for children under 15 years of age,” it does not there are legal restrictions against its sale or display.

For his part, Kamiya began publishing the light novels through the  MF Bunko J imprint  of the Media Factory publishing house   in April 2012. The publisher published the tenth compiled volume in January 2018.
The play inspired a twelve-episode anime adaptation produced by Madhouse Studios  , directed by  Atsuko Ishizuka  and scripts written by  Jukki Hanada , released in April 2014. To date there is no indication of a second season being produced.
