On the official site of singer Yumi Matsutoya, it was announced that the artist will perform the new theme song for the browser game from the Touken Ranbu franchise, titled “Anata to Watashi to”. Matsutoya wrote the song specifically for the game, in celebration of its fifth anniversary. The game's official YouTube channel posted the new opening sequence.

Matsutoya is perhaps best known for having performed the theme song for the films Majo no Takkyuubin and Kaze Tachinu, produced by Studio Ghibli. The singer also performed different musical themes in various installments of the Tamayura anime franchise.

For its part, the game Touken Ranbu Online focuses on the personification of different and popular swords in the history of Japan, turned into handsome men. Nitroplus designed the characters and the setting. The game was released in Japan in 2015, and the franchise inspired the thirteen-episode Katsugeki / Touken Ranbu anime, produced by Ufotable Studios under the direction of Toshiyuki Shirai and released in July 2017.
