On the official site for the anime adaptation of the NieR: Automata video game , titled NieR: Automata Ver. 1.1a , it was announced that the series will resume on July 23 with the consecutive broadcast of the ninth to twelfth episodes (9 to 12). These final four episodes will be broadcast the same day on television in Japan, but it has not yet been confirmed how the premieres will be made through the Crunchyroll platform.
The anime adaptation went on hiatus after the eighth episode premiered in March this year due to the impact of the COVID -19 pandemic on the production schedule. The series had already gone on hiatus after the third episode, and the fourth episode returned to Japanese broadcast and streaming on February 18.
It should be noted that in an interview between the animation director of the series Ryoji Matsuyama and the creator of the video game Yoko Taro , it was explained that this project will not be a faithful adaptation of the game, but that it will be a completely original story, starring the iconic characters from this franchise. In its time, the game was praised for its story and themes, its gameplay, and its music. Some visual and technical problems were criticized, but sales exceeded expectations; as of July 2021, the game had sold over 6 million copies worldwide.
