A recent leak has claimed that the second season of the anime adaptation of the manga “ Sousou no Frieren ( Frieren: Beyond Journey's End )” is scheduled to premiere sometime in 2026 in Japan , with Keiichiro Saito returning to the director's chair at Madhouse Studios (it should be noted that he did not return to direct the second season of “Bocchi the Rock!”).

It is important to note that this information is pending official confirmation , but comes from an extremely reliable source.

For their part, Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe began publishing the manga through Shogakukan 's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in April 2020, and it is still in serialization. An anime adaptation by Madhouse Studios aired during the Fall 2023 season (October-December) and had a total of twenty-eight episodes.

Synopsis of Sousou no Frieren

The Demon King has been defeated, and the victorious group of heroes has returned to their respective homes after disbanding. The four—the mage Frieren, the hero Himmel, the priest Heiter, and the warrior Eisen—reminisce about their decade-long journey as it comes time to say goodbye. But the passage of time is different for elves, and so Frieren witnesses his beloved companions slowly dying.

Before his death, Heiter manages to foist upon Frieren a young human apprentice named Fern. Driven by the elf's passion for collecting a wealth of magical spells, the pair embark on a seemingly aimless journey, revisiting the places that heroes of old had visited. Throughout their travels, Frieren slowly confronts his regret over the missed opportunities to form deeper bonds with his now-deceased comrades.
