During its panel at the Anime Expo, Aniplex of America announced that it will release "Clockwork Girl", the first episode of the original Virgin Punk series, created by director Yasuomi Umetsu and the prestigious animation studio SHAFT. Although a specific date for its premiere in the United States has not yet been revealed, a subtitled trailer is already available.

A futuristic world dominated by technology and crime

The story is set in the year 2099, where humanity has reached a new era thanks to the android medical technology called "Somadea", capable of healing any wound or disease. However, this innovation has also been misused by criminals who illegally modify their bodies to gain superhuman abilities.

To combat these crimes, the Bounty Hunter System is created, which allows authorized civilians to hunt down – and even kill – criminals with Somadea in exchange for large sums of money.

A bounty hunter with a returning past

In this violent scenario, we meet Ubu Kamigori, a ruthless bounty hunter who lives in the face of danger. But everything changes when, upon returning from a mission, she finds a man from her past at home: Mr. Elegance. From that meeting, his destiny begins to crumble.

With an atmosphere full of action, suspense and cyberpunk aesthetics, "Clockwork Girl" is presented as a story of mechanical girls, explosions and revenge.

A project with an author's stamp

Yasuomi Umetsu (known for Kite and Mezzo) directs and designs the characters for the project, while SHAFT collaborates as the main studio. The script and composition of the series are in charge of Yūya Takahashi (Lupin III: Part IV), and the animation has talents such as Gen'ichirou Abe (Kizumonogatari), Shinya Takahashi and Maho Kando.

A very successful debut in Japan

Clockwork Girl debuted in Japanese theaters on June 27 in select theaters such as Cine Libre Ikebukuro (Tokyo) and Theatre Umeda (Osaka), managing to position itself in first place on the mini-cinema billboard. This promising start anticipates an international expansion that is already generating great expectation.
