Eighteen
years are easy to say, but for the franchise that defined an entire generation
of ecchi fans, the road has been a real rollercoaster of emotions. The
legendary writer Ichiei Ishibumi, creator of High School DxD,
took advantage of the eighteenth anniversary of the release of his work to send
an emotional message of thanks to the fans who have accompanied him since day
one, although the celebration was accompanied by a sincere apology for the lack
of new chapters.
During his
message published on September 20, the author not only expressed his gratitude
for the enormous support that the franchise continues to receive, but also
addressed head-on the constant delays that have affected the publication of his
most recent projects. Ishibumi explained that the extended pauses in the main
story and spin-off installments are due to chronic health issues brought on by
overwork accumulated over the years.
Among the
conditions that have slowed down her writing pace are episodes of severe
hypertension and complications in the cervical vertebrae, conditions that
prevent her from spending long days in front of the desk. Despite these
physical difficulties, the writer made it clear that he has not thrown in the
towel and that he is focused on his recovery to move forward calmly in the Shin
High School DxD novels and the compilations of short stories that he has
pending.

Ishibumi and illustrated by Miyama-Zero, the light novel series
began publication in September 2008 under Fujimi Fantasia Bunko from Fujimi
Shobo, concluding its main arc in March 2018 with a total of 25 volumes before
giving way to its direct sequel. The plot follows in the footsteps of Issei
Hyodo, a perverted high school student who is killed during their first date
and resurrected as a demon by the beautiful Rias Gremory. Transformed into the
servant of the heiress of the Gremory clan, Issei must learn to navigate
angels, fallen demons, and mythological creatures as he pursues his great dream
of becoming the king of the harem.
