A
new scandal has knocked on the doors of the Genshin Impact development
company , miHoYo , and again it involves accusations
of plagiarism or lack of creativity . However, in this case the
controversy did not arise around something related to the Paimon franchise, but
rather it was the most recent promotional video for Honkai Impact 3rd that
immediately caught the attention of Asian viewers.
Before we get into it, why don't you take a look at
the promotional video and try to identify what Internet users pointed out as
“blatant copy”?
Well, if you couldn't detect it, don't feel bad. In
fact, the criticism was started by a very meticulous user well versed in the
subject, who immediately compiled the evidence in a video shared on the popular
Chinese platform Bilibili. In this video, we can see that three
segments (at least those detected so far) are extremely
similar (if not identical) to the following :
- The
music video for "Yuusha" by YOASOBI, the opening of Sousou no Frieren ( Frieren:
Beyond Journey's End ).
- To the
opening of the second season of Mushoku
Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation .
- To one
of the openings of Black Clover .
Users are still analyzing the promotional video
further to see if they find any other similarities with another production ,
but the current ones were already enough to attract comments from the
community:
- « I
think it is fashionable to copy some opening and ending sequences, perhaps
because they think that no one will notice. Don't they know that
these sequences have their own director and staff and are considered
“another anime”? ».
- " These
guys are always copying the Japanese ."
- « “It
is not plagiarism, it is a tribute”, say those who support this type of
actions ».
- " I
am a player of this video game, but don't think that I trust the
development company very much ."
- " They
almost went unnoticed, but the copy of Black Clover was too obvious,
someone had to notice sooner or later ."
- « I
assume that the sequences were made by the same team that made the other
sequences, right? If not, I can't explain how they were approved .
- " I'm
happy that these kinds of things are finally being noticed on the Internet ."
- « It
seems that there is no copyright in China, I guess that's why they don't
care about copying everyone .»
- « Even
if a big company decides to use something as a “reference”, they should
always be grateful for borrowing already produced material ».
- « Before
Genshin Impact was released, people were already calling it a vile copy of
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Do Chinese developers only
know how to copy ideas? ».
- « This
company is always copying ideas or worse, directly stealing .»
