The anime film based on the visual novel created by TYPE-MOON, Mahoutsukai no
Yoru (Witch on the Holy Night), revealed a new promotional
video. The video did not reveal a release date, confirming
that the feature film is still in production. The studios Ufotable are in
charge of the animation.
The original novel Mahoutsukai no Yoru , written
in 1996, was the novel that first established the Nasuverse currently
known. Kinoko Nasu and her colleagues thought at that time
that they would not be able to write anything better than that novel in the
next ten years. In high school, she was inspired by the first episode of Neon Genesis
Evangelion and thought about writing a novel. Nasu wrote about 400
pages and tried to submit it to several writing contests in 1996, but was unsuccessful,
and the work was limited to passing it around to her friends. Nasu attempted to
submit the novel to publisher Fujimi Shobo , but found it
difficult to keep it under 350 pages and she left the novel unpublished. In the
end, he only printed less than 5 copies of the original draft and some of the
characters from the original story were drawn by Takashi Takeuchi for
his former personal website .
After forming TYPE-MOON with Takeuchi and with the successes of his subsequent visual novel works Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night, Takeuchi suggested remaking Mahoutsukai no Yoru so that it could be published before her next planned project Girls' Work. TYPE-MOON then announced the development of the visual novel, although unlike the company's previous games, Mahoutsukai no Yoru was not conceived as a video game for adults.
Sinopsis of Mahoutsukai no Yoru
Near the end of the Showa Era, in the late 1980s, in the
city of Misaki, an old mansion is rumored to be the home of a witch. After
moving into the mansion, Aoko Aozaki begins to learn sorcery from a young
magician, Alice Kuonji, the mansion's rumored witch. The Aozaki family oversees
the land on which Misaki City is built and the heiress (Aoko) is tasked with
protecting it. Mysterious intruders have been disturbing the bounded
countryside of Misaki City, prompting Alice and Aoko to investigate. A mannequin
or puppet attacks them and is incinerated. While this is happening, they both
see someone fleeing, a civilian who should not escape having seen the magic
alive. Unexpectedly, a young man named Soujuurou Shizuki is attracted to the
mansion and comes to reside with them as well. It is eventually revealed that
the intruder who had been disrupting the bounded field is Touko Aozaki, Aoko's
older sister. She, after having killed her grandfather, now seeks to reveal the
Aozakis' path to the root.
