On more than one occasion we've talked about people
on Twitter expressing a negative opinion about the anime industry .
The most recent one became a trend after criticizing that in the anime
adaptation of “ Kimetsu
no Yaiba ” there are “ too many shots that highlight the
breasts of the female characters ,” attracting the attention of
Internet users in Japan:
- « I
was watching “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” with my husband overnight,
but halfway through the series there were a lot of costumes that
emphasized the main girls' breasts and, as expected, my husband asked me
“why?” Does Japanese anime emphasize girls' breasts so much? I couldn't
answer him, but I was relieved to know that he has decent sensitivity.
It's a very good story, but I don't know. And I wonder what would be the
correct way to explain it… », He wrote on Twitter.
This comment sparked a discussion among fans of “Kimetsu no
Yaiba” and anime in general. Some argued that excessive sexualization in anime
series, especially those aimed at a teenage audience, might be unnecessary and
should be avoided. Others defended the creative freedom of the creators
and pointed out that these representations are common in the shonen genre,
intended for a youth audience.
The debate has led to questions about the responsibility of
anime creators in the representation of the female anatomy and whether more
equitable and respectful approaches need to be adopted. As fans continue to
share their opinions, it remains to be seen how this debate will
influence future productions and whether creators will consider adjusting their
approach in response to concerns raised on social media:
- " It's
like when American comic book heroes are unnecessarily muscular ."
- « They
are completely deformed. Don't you think it's strange that eyes are bigger
than boobs? ».
- " It
will be problematic if they stop doing it, the world would stop watching
anime as a result ."
- " It
is difficult to estimate the ages of the characters, so they use large
breasts to indicate that they are adults ."
- « So
is there a relationship between the size of an anime girl's breasts and
her age? ».
- " Teenagers who can't afford pornographic magazines can get turned on by shonen manga, it's always been that way ."
- « Is
the story of Kimetsu no Yaiba good in the first place? I understand that
bad stories resort to girls with big breasts to make themselves relevant .
- « I
think it's a ridiculous criticism from a disoriented woman. The funniest
thing is that Kimetsu no Yaiba is a work written by a woman .
- « American
cities are full of women who show cleavage and wear tight pants, right? ».
- « This
is how shonen mangas work. Of course there will be depictions of big
breasts because they are stories aimed at men. If you don't like this, you
can go watch anime series aimed at women, where these types of
representations are minimal. "It's like complaining about how spicy
spicy ramen is when there are more options at the restaurant ."
- " Kimetsu
no Yaiba is an anime franchise created by a woman, and she knows that what
men want to see are big tits ."
- " In
countries other than Japan, children watch anime and that is why they
believe that expressions of violence and eroticism should be regularized ."
- " Foreigners
have a tremendous fear that underage characters have the slightest level
of sensuality ."
- « Girls
with small breasts generally do not have good sales in terms of
merchandise, it is a simple matter of business. Even Sousou no Frieren had
to resort to a character like that .
- « This
woman's husband only said all that to have sex that night, women know! ».
- « It
is not an anime project for everyone, why should it be adjusted this way? ».
- « In
fact, I would like some series to not be so erotic. Even if it is not
emphasized, one as a viewer realizes it .
