Riko
Muranaka is a medical
doctor and journalist in Japan, awarded for her work to combat misinformation
about human papillomavirus vaccination in her country. However, she recently
became a trend not because of journalistic investigations of her, but because
she launched a criticism against the “ Kimetsu no Yaiba ”
franchise:
- « The new “Kimetsu no Yaiba” series is already number 4 on Netflix in Germany. However, the setting in which the female characters have baby faces and large breasts has become a topic of conversation among Germans, including children, not because of sexism, but because it is unnatural and disgusting. That type of expression, which sometimes appears in Japanese anime and manga, is not sexy or erotic, but is perceived as a sexual perversion .
It is not
the first time that someone criticizes that in “Kimetsu no Yaiba” the female
characters have childlike appearances but mature bodies generally represented
by their large breasts. Examples
from recent seasons included Mitsuri Kanroji, the Pillar of Love, and the
protagonist herself Nezuko Kamado, who upon developing her demonic form puts
aside her girlish appearance and grows a little (obviously she also grows
several bra sizes).
Although
there have been many people who complained about it, it is perhaps the first
time that someone renowned in Japan and social media has spoken out about it. Perhaps this is why Riko
Muranaka's publication quickly accumulated millions and millions of
interactions on Twitter, accumulating comments such as:
- « I wish I could honestly
say that I don't like it and that's it. If both adults and children hate
the series, how did it come to fourth place in the national rankings? ».
- « Are they referring to a
sensual woman known as Mitsuri Kanroji? ».
- « Demons do not exist in
reality, what is the problem? ».
- « First of all, I thought
the Germans didn't want to see something like this. A story where the
protagonist has to behead his enemies, it doesn't seem to me that they are
ready for those things .
- « For foreigners, series
like “Invincible” from Prime Video are marked as R18. In Japan it is like
a race to see who produces the most extremely violent things, and children
can see them without problems .
- « It seems that there are
quite a few people who are not happy with the designs of Kimetsu no Yaiba .»
- « Do these idiots not
realize that they are advocating for the human rights of anime characters? ».
- « If you don't like it,
don't watch it. It seems that millions of Germans do watch it anyway .
- « I have the impression
that teenage girls with big breasts are more common even abroad. Aren't
Japanese women supposed to be smaller? ».
- « The Kimetsu no Yaiba
manga had a lot of breasts and large necklines for a female author. Being
a Shonen Jump manga, it must include elements that are attractive to
teenage males. So I think the author knew what she was doing .
- « If you don't like it,
then why are you watching it? ».
- « So pretty girls don't
have the right to have big tits? I don't understand ".
