It is totally evident that “ Sousou no Frieren ( Frieren:
Beyond Journey's End )” is one of the most popular anime adaptations
currently, surprising with each new episode produced by the Madhouse animators.
As the series slowly approaches its final episode (the twenty-eighth),
a question has arisen among fans: what are the chances of a second season?
While it's true that twenty-eight episodes is a
fairly large number of episodes by today's standards, how far has the anime
adaptation come from the original manga? Thanks to the efforts of
the fan community, we can know exactly how the adaptation has developed so far:
- Beyond
the Journey Arc (13 manga chapters) – 7 anime
episodes.
- Aura
the Guillotine arc (10 manga chapters) – 5 anime
episodes.
- Arc
of the Journey to Äußerst (13 chapters of the
manga) – 7 episodes of the anime.
- First
Class Magic Exam Arc Part 1 (11 manga chapters)
– 5 anime episodes.
- First
Class Magic Exam Arc Part 2 (9 manga chapters) –
3 anime episodes (estimated).
- First
Class Magic Exam Arc Part 3 (4 manga chapters) –
1 anime episodes (estimated).
With this we can confirm that this first season
of “Sousou no Frieren (Frieren: Beyond Journey's End)” will adapt a total of 60
chapters of the original manga. And what is left to adapt
so far? Reviewing the records, the following story arcs include:
- Arc
of Journeys to the North (10 chapters of the
manga).
- Divine
Revolution Arc (6 manga chapters).
- Arc
of the Golden Lands (28 chapters of the manga).
- Goddess
Monument Arc (15 chapters of the manga).
- Arc
of Travels to the Imperial Territory (6 chapters
of the manga).
- Founders
Festival Arc (1 manga chapter, in development).
All this, despite the constant suspensions that the manga
has gone through in recent years, adds up to a total of 65 chapters. Omitting
the last arc that is in development, the number of chapters available is more
than enough for the production of a second season. But what do fans
think about it?
- " The
anime has been widely well received, so it is evident that there will be a
second season ."
- « He
probably will. The point is to know when she will arrive. I really
recommend taking a look at the manga, it will be an excellent experience
that complements the anime .
- « The
one who decides whether an anime gets the green light for a continuation
or not is usually the Production Committee, not the studio, and the good
thing is that the production committee is Toho Animation, which has a good
history of continuations (Angel Next Door , Mushoku, Jujutsu, Boku no
Hero) and even handled by the same studio that made the first season.
Madhouse does make sequels, like Overlord, Kadokawa is the production
committee for that IP, and makes money from both the source and the anime
merch, so yes, it's a good thing .
- « Madhouse
did not make the sequel to One Punch Man because the production committee
did not give enough money for the team working on that anime, so they
solved it by changing studios and production teams (the production team at
Madhouse for One Punch Man consists of some of the best animators of the
generation and most of them are freelance) ».
- « 2
years or so should be a safe bet. At the current rate, we are going to
adapt 60 chapters for one season, 2 years should be enough for 60 chapters
(resting, hiatus included) ».
- « More
or less this, I just want to add that the people behind Frieren are also
top notch in the industry, they are very busy, so apart from money, they
will need TIME and LUCK to be able to put together the same team for
season 2. »
