During the Anime Expo 2024 event , it was officially announced that the webtoon written by Sing N Song and illustrated by Sleepy-C , “ Omniscient Reader ,” will have an anime adaptation. The statement did not reveal production details or a scheduled release date, but did list that Crunchyroll is involved in the production.

The franchise originally began as a web novel written by creative duo Sing N Song , which became extremely popular among the reading community in South Korea. Since February 2020, one day after the conclusion of the novels, a webtoon adaptation by Sleepy-C at Redice Studio is in publication. The webtoon has achieved a great level of popularity in South Korea and, thanks to translations, the rest of the world.

Synopsis of Omniscient Reader

Kim Dokja does not consider himself the protagonist of his own life. Living up to the name his parents gave him, he is a lonely person whose only hobby is reading web novels. For over a decade, he has lived vicariously through Yoo Joonghyuk, the protagonist of the novel Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse (TWSA). Through Joonghyuk, Dokja has experienced secondhand the trials of repeatedly going back in time, seeking an end to the life-threatening “scenarios” that force people to act out narratives for the amusement of divine “Constellations.”

After reading 3,149 chapters - long after all other readers lost interest - Dokja finally resigns himself to the story ending. However, he receives an enigmatic message from the author in which he informs him that the story will soon be monetized, before his surroundings suddenly go dark. He quickly realizes that fiction has become reality and that he is now living through TWSA. Although he is the only omniscient reader of the events to come, his success on the stage is not guaranteed, but perhaps his advantage will allow him to assume the leading role that he has never before been given.
