Director Norihiro Naganuma ,
responsible for the anime adaptation of ' The Apothecary Diaries ' ( Kusuriya
no Hitorigoto ), recently shared in an interview with Crunchyroll some
details about the long-awaited second season of the series. During his
appearance on The Anime Effect podcast, Naganuma talked about what fans
can expect from the new installment , teasing that the story will
delve deeper into some of the mysteries raised during the first season.
According to Naganuma, the second season will continue
to explore and develop many of the puzzles previously introduced. “ There
will be more developments, the story will become even bigger ,”
the director commented, adding that “ there are many mysteries from
the first season that will become even more complicated before being solved .”
Fans will also be able to enjoy an evolution in the relationship between the
characters Jinshi and Maomao, who, according to Naganuma, “ will
work and grow together throughout the story .”
The director also mentioned the introduction of new
characters in this second season, which will allow viewers to discover new
dynamics and surprises in the plot. Naganuma expressed his gratitude towards
the followers of the series, saying, “ To all the fans who are
watching this, thank you for supporting 'The Apothecary Diaries'. We will do
our best to make the second season great .”
Before offering these previews about the new season,
Naganuma also spoke about his journey in the anime industry and the challenges
he faced as a director. “ When I finally got the chance to be a
director, I wasn’t sure what or how to express my ideas ,” he
confessed. However, his work on ‘The Ancient Magus’ Bride’ marked a milestone
in his career, allowing him to reflect on what it means to be a good director.
“ I took three or four years to reflect on how to improve ,”
he explained.
In addition to directing, Naganuma was in charge of
series composition and storyboarding for The Apothecary Diaries, and he talked
about how he managed to adapt the essential elements of the original novel to
the animated format. “ We strived to maintain the best elements of
the original novel and accurately translate them into animation ,”
he commented, adding that they also focused on incorporating colors and sound
elements that were not present in the original work. He even mentioned
that the author of the novel, Natsu Hyuga, trusted him completely throughout
the adaptation process, confessing to him that she was “the number one fan of
the animated series.”

The second season of 'The Apothecary Diaries' is set
to premiere in 2025 , and fans are already anticipating how
new mysteries and relationships will unfold in this fascinating world of
