Over the past weekend at Anime Expo 2025, new details were revealed about The Last Blossom, the upcoming film from ODDTAXI creator Baku Kinoshita. The film presented its first full trailer, a new promotional image, the main theme and its release date in Japan: October 10, 2025.

A story about redemption, family... and talking flowers

The Last Blossom is directed and designed by Baku Kinoshita, while the script is by Kazuya Konomoto, both responsible for the acclaimed anime ODDTAXI. The production is in the hands of the CLAP studio (Pompo: The Cinéphile), and the artistic direction was carried out by Michinoku-toge.

The film was officially selected for the 2025 Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Its story is set in the autumn of 2023, and follows Akutsu, an elderly prisoner sentenced to life imprisonment who is in his last days. When a talking flower named Housenka tells him, "What a rotten life you had," Akutsu begins to reminisce about his past. The story goes back to the summer of 1986, when he lived with Nana and their son Kensuke in a humble apartment surrounded by flowers. The story chronicles the last heroic act of a dying yakuza and the bond that binds him to his family.

A cast full of personality

Along with the trailer, the voice cast that will give life to the characters of the film was presented:

  • Hideaki Murata as Hayashida
  • Hiroki Yasumoto (Sado in Bleach) as Tsutsumi
  • Soma Saito (Moriarty in Moriarty the Patriot) as Wakamatsu
  • Kota Nakayama as Konishi

Music is in charge of zero

The Japanese pop group zero will be in charge of the original soundtrack of the film. In the trailer you can already hear a preview of the main theme entitled "Moving Still Life", a composition that reflects the melancholy and introspection that the film promises.

The Last Blossom will hit Japanese theaters on Friday, October 10, 2025. No dates have yet been confirmed for international distribution.
