Over the
past weekend at Anime Expo 2025, new details were revealed
about The Last Blossom, the upcoming film from ODDTAXI creator Baku
Kinoshita. The film presented its first full trailer, a new promotional
image, the main theme and its release date in Japan: October 10, 2025.
A story
about redemption, family... and talking flowers
The Last
Blossom is
directed and designed by Baku Kinoshita, while the script is
by Kazuya Konomoto, both responsible for the acclaimed anime
ODDTAXI. The production is in the hands of the CLAP studio
(Pompo: The Cinéphile), and the artistic direction was carried out
by Michinoku-toge.
The film
was officially selected for the 2025 Annecy International Animated Film
Festival. Its story is set in the autumn of 2023, and follows Akutsu,
an elderly prisoner sentenced to life imprisonment who is in his last days.
When a talking flower named Housenka tells him, "What a
rotten life you had," Akutsu begins to reminisce about his past. The story
goes back to the summer of 1986, when he lived with Nana and
their son Kensuke in a humble apartment surrounded by flowers.
The story chronicles the last heroic act of a dying yakuza and the bond that
binds him to his family.

Along with
the trailer, the voice cast that will give life to the characters of the film
was presented:

Music is
in charge of zero
The
Japanese pop group zero will be in charge of the original
soundtrack of the film. In the trailer you can already hear a preview of
the main theme entitled "Moving Still Life", a
composition that reflects the melancholy and introspection that the film
promises.
The Last
Blossom will
hit Japanese theaters on Friday, October 10, 2025. No dates
have yet been confirmed for international distribution.
