Iconic
musical trio Kalafina ,
who officially disbanded in March 2019, have announced their long-awaited
comeback with an anniversary concert scheduled for January 15 at Tokyo Garden Theater. This event marks
the reunion of Keiko Kubota, Hikaru Masai, and Wakana Ootaki ,
who will once again share the stage after years of pursuing individual paths in
the music industry.
One of
the most notable developments is that Yuki Kajiura, the group's founder and
main composer, will not be involved in this reunion. Through her social networks, Kajiura
made it clear that she was not officially contacted by any of the members or by
the organizers of the concert. Despite this distancing, Kajiura mentioned
that she had wanted to work with Kalafina again, but acknowledged that the
members have decided to "walk a different path."
Both
Keiko Kubota and Hikaru Masai expressed their gratitude towards fans for making
this concert possible. Kubota
emphasized that it was Kajiura's music that allowed her to sing again, while
Masai shared her happiness at being able to perform the songs that were part of
Kalafina's history again.
Kalafina
was originally created in 2007 by Yuki Kajiura to perform the theme songs for the film series
“ The Garden of Sinners .” Throughout their career, the group
established themselves as one of the most important in the anime music scene,
performing themes for titles such as “ Fate/Zero ,” “ Aldnoah.Zero ,”
and “ Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu .” The group released a total of
21 singles and six studio albums, leaving a legacy that still resonates among
their fans.
Since
their disbandment, all three members have pursued solo careers under separate
stage names. Wakana Ootaki and Hikaru Masai launched solo careers, while Kubota
has worked under the name KEIKO. Despite their separate paths, Kubota and Masai collaborated with
Kajiura again on her music project FictionJunction, though this reunion on
stage marks the first time they will perform together as Kalafina since their
disbandment.
The
concert announcement has excited fans around the world, who are eagerly
awaiting to relive the hits that marked the group's career. However, the absence of Yuki Kajiura in
this comeback has left a bittersweet feeling among those who considered his
participation as a fundamental part of the Kalafina spirit.
