A new
promotional video for the project has been revealed on the official site
for Adult Swim 's upcoming original anime " Lazarus
". The video showcases the opening sequence, which features the theme
song "Vortex" performed by Kamasi Washington , and showcases
the work of director Shinichiro Watanabe ( Cowboy Bebop, Samurai
Champloo, Space Dandy) and MAPPA studios .
Meanwhile, the
series is scheduled to premiere on April 5 via Adult Swim's Toonami programming
block , and is confirmed to have a total of thirteen episodes. Jason
DeMarco confirmed that Watanabe is directing every episode. Chad
Stahelski (stuntman and director of John Wick) is in charge of
designing the action sequences for this science fiction action anime. The
anime's soundtrack features jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington ,
as well as producers, DJs and musicians Floating Points and Bonobo . Sola
Entertainment is in charge of production.
On the
other hand, Shinichiro Watanabe has directed renowned anime
productions such as " Cowboy Bebop ", " Macross
Plus ", " Samurai Champloo ",
" Space Dandy ", " Carole & Tuesday ",
and " Terror in Resonance ". He was also in charge
of the anime short film " Blade Runner: Black Out 2022 ".
His short film " A Girl Meets a Boy and a Robot "
was screened at the 26th Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal,
Canada in July 2022.
On the
other hand, the voice cast consists of Mamoru Miyano as
Axel, Makoto Furukawa as Doug, Maaya Uchida as
Christine, Yuuma Uchida as Leland, Manaka Iwami as
Eleina, Megumi Hayashibara as Hersch, Akio Ootsuka as
Abel, and Koichi Yamadera as Skinner.
Synopsis
of Lazarus
The year
is 2052, and an era of unprecedented peace and prosperity dominates the world.
The reason behind this is that humanity has been freed from pain and disease.
Nobel Prize-winning neuroscientist Dr. Skinner developed a miracle drug with no
apparent side effects called Hapuna. Soon, this drug becomes indispensable in
society. However, shortly after its official release, Dr. Skinner mysteriously
disappears. Three years later, the world has moved on, but Skinner returns with
a terrifying revelation: Hapuna has a short half-life, and everyone who took it
will die in approximately three years.
With
this declaration, the end of humanity seems inevitable. In response to this
crisis, a special force of five elite agents from around the world is formed to
stop Skinner's plan and save humanity. This unit is dubbed "Lazarus."
Can they find Skinner and develop a vaccine before time runs out?
