Mikami Teren ’s popular
light novel title , “ There’s No Freaking Way I’ll Be Your
Lover! Unless… ( Watashi ga
Koibito ni Nareru Wake Nai jan, Muri Muri! (※Muri ja Nakatta!?) ),” is
getting an anime adaptation premiering in Summer 2025 (July-September). A
teaser visual, promotional video, and details about the cast and crew were also
revealed.
The original novel won first place in the New Works
category of the 2021 Next Light Novel Award and, as of April 2023, had already
surpassed 500,000 copies sold. In addition, the work has a
manga adaptation illustrated by Musshu, which is published on the Niconico
platform. In a comment, author
Mikami Teren expressed her enthusiasm for the adaptation :

to write this work because I felt that there was a lack of more
girl-on-girl love stories in light novels. I'm excited to see how this
genre has grown, and I hope that with this adaptation, more people will be

Synopsis of There's No Freaking Way I'll be Your
Lover! Unless…
The story
follows Renako Amaori, a young girl who, after a lonely time in middle school,
decides to reinvent herself in high school to become a normal student with
normal friends. However, her life takes an unexpected turn when she meets Mai
Ouzuka, a model and the star of her school. Although the two quickly develop a
close friendship, Mai confesses to having a crush on Renako, which sets off a
game of emotions as Renako tries to convince Mai that being friends is better
than being a couple.
