During
the Emerald City Comic Con event , it was reported that the
manga written and illustrated by Tsuyoshi Takaki ,
" Black Torch ", will be getting an
anime adaptation, confirming the previous leak. The release listed the
production details, but it has left more questions than answers
considering that "Black Torch" was a cancelled manga at the time.

publishing the manga through Shueisha 's Jump SQ magazine
in December 2016, and ended it in July 2018 with only nineteen chapters
published. The author was previously in charge of other works such as
" Rose Guns Days: Aishuu no Cross Knife ",
" Heart Gear " and the one-shot " Freaks ".

Torch Synopsis
Seventeen-year-old
Jirou Azuma lives a quiet life with his grandfather, using his supernatural
ability to speak with animals to befriend and protect them. Both Jirou and his
grandfather descend from an ancient shinobi clan and train in combat to keep
the art of battle alive within their family. Jirou’s life is turned upside down
after he rescues a seemingly ordinary black cat, Ragou, and discovers that he
is actually a mononoke, a demonic spirit that has long waged war against
humanity. When a hostile mononoke comes looking for Ragou, Jirou uses his
shinobi training to jump to the cat’s defense, but immediately suffers a fatal
wound.
Faced
with the decision of whether or not to devour Jirou's energy and regain his
full power, Ragou opts to give Jirou his remaining energy. Upon reviving the
boy, the transfer also grants him great supernatural powers that complement his
own shinobi fighting style. This act is witnessed by Ryousuke Shiba, an
Espionage Bureau officer whose job revolves around dispatching aggressive
mononoke. Shiba makes Jirou and his grandfather an offer: join the Bureau's new
squad, Black Torch, and help them fight off the powerful mononoke that seek to
devour innocent people.
