Manga
artist Atsushi Kase , known for works such as Chameleon and Kuro
Ageha , is returning to publishing with a new manga titled YakuMan .
The series will debut next Thursday, June 6, in
Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Magazine .
A double
life between punches and moé girls
In this new
story, we meet Kaede , a tough yakuza member respected—and
feared—for her combat prowess. But Kaede hides a side she'd never dare reveal
to her peers: she's actually also "Maple ," a
popular creator of moé manga featuring adorable girls and
heartwarming situations.
With the
stress of deadlines and the constant danger of the criminal
underworld , Kaede finds himself trapped in an internal struggle
between his two identities. Can he survive in both worlds without his secret
getting out?
The
return of an author with history
Kase
concluded her Kuro Ageha manga in 2023, with a total of 20 compiled volumes .
This work was a spinoff of her successful Chameleon , a comedy
manga about juvenile delinquents that ran from 1990 to 2000 and even
inspired six OVAs released between 1992 and 1996.
With YakuMan ,
Kase returns to his roots of absurdist comedy and extreme characters ,
but with a twist that promises to be as hilarious as it is chaotic. This is
definitely a show to keep an eye on this summer.
