Pop Team Epic ends its daily updates of manga

The author BKUB OKAWA has announced through his official account that, as of June 2025, his popular pop manga Team Epic will no longer have daily updates. Instead, the next chapter will be published on June 15, thus adopting a new most spacious publications calendar.

The statement was accompanied by an illustration in which Popuko appears in a baby cart, while Pipimi holds a Nintendo Switch 2, whose departure is scheduled for June 5. Although Okawa did not reveal the reasons behind the frequency change, he apologized for not being able to explain the details.

A trajectory marked by chaos and satire

Pop Team Epic debuted in 2014 on the Manga Life Win website in Takeshobo, and since then it has been synonymous with absurd humor and unpredictable parodies. Over the years, Okawa has played with the structure of the manga, launching "seasons" under different names, even intentionally hiding the real number of each.

After the first stage that ended in 2015, the author has published multiple "seasons", including season 5, initially presented under the title Poputan in 2019. The seventh season was compiled in a volume that went on sale on July 14, 2023.

The most recent, season 9, began on April 1, 2025. It should be remembered that the eighth season was suspended in October 2023 due to author's health problems.

A work that transcended the manga

The success of Pop Team Epic was not limited to the vignettes. Its adaptation to anime was released in January 2018 and was transmitted simultaneously on platforms such as Hidive, Crunchyroll, Funimation, Amazon Prime Video and Asianncrush. In addition, he arrived on American television through the Adult Swim Toonami block in June of that year.

In October 2022 the second season of the anime was released, reaffirming the cult status that this work has in the International Fandom.

A restless and prolific author

Despite the change in the Pop Team Epic publication rhythm, Okawa does not stop. His new manga, Chinchilland, was released in the Mounthly Comic Dengeki Daioh in Kadokawa on September 27. As usual with the author, this new series is expected to also be impregnated with its characteristic irreverent style.

With this pause in daily updates, it remains to be seen if Okawa prepares any surprise for the future of Popuko and Pipimi. The only sure thing is that chaos will continue ... at its pace.
