Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ platform
announced Thursday that the baseball manga Bōkyaku Battery (known
internationally as Oblivion Battery), the work of Eco
Mikawa, will take a pause in its publication. The series will resume
regular airing on September 4, 2025.
A sports
story with a unique twist
The manga
is simultaneously available in English through Shueisha's MANGA Plus service,
which describes the work as:
"The
monstrous drum duo, once feared by everyone, shows up in... any public school?!
A group of baseball geniuses is in the most unexpected place..."
The series
debuted in April 2018 on the Shonen Jump+ website, and
its 21st volume was published on April 4. Since
then, it has established itself as one of the most original sports proposals in
the publisher's digital catalog.
From the
pages to anime and beyond
The manga
was adapted into an anime in a first season that premiered in April
2024. Crunchyroll streamed the series in parallel with its
broadcast in Japan, with a featured cast that includes Toshiki Masuda as
Haruka Kiyomine and Mamoru Miyano as Kei Kaname. The
production of the anime is confirmed for a second season, which
further cements its success inside and outside Japan.
In addition
to the television anime, the franchise has a special anime produced
by MAPPA that aired in October 2020 during the Jump
Special Anime Festa 2020. In that version, Mamoru Miyano also voiced the
character of Kei.
As part of
its growing popularity, Oblivion Battery will also inspire
a play to be performed in Tokyo and Osaka during
the month of October, bringing the history of baseball's diamond to the live
stage.
