This year's
32nd issue of Weekly Young Jump magazine, published by Shueisha,
announced that the manga DOGSRED, the work of renowned author Satoru
Noda, will enter a temporary hiatus. The reason is that the
author needs time to prepare the sixth compilation volume, which
will go on sale on August 19.
According
to the publisher, the manga will return in the combined issue number 36 and 37
of the magazine, which will be available from August 7 (local
time in Japan). This pause will allow the publication of the new volume to go
smoothly.
A story
of redemption on ice
Viz
Media, in charge of
the English publication, describes the story of DOGSRED as
follows:
Rou
Shirakawa was a promising young figure skating man with an almost guaranteed
ticket to the Olympic Games. However, after a family tragedy, his career fell
apart. Banned from skating, he moved with his sister to Hokkaido. There, he
meets a group of boys who convince him to join their hockey team as a
substitute, on the verge of dissolution. Although they have never won a game,
their goal is to score at least one goal before disappearing. Rou doesn't know
how to play hockey... but she's great at skating!
A return
that revives a forgotten work
DOGSRED was released in July
2023 as a recreation of Supinamarada!, Noda's first manga
also focused on ice hockey. This story was originally published between 2011
and 2012, with six compilation volumes, and remained a little-known work until
now.
Satoru Noda
is recognized worldwide for his work Golden Kamuy, which was
serialized between 2014 and 2022 in the same magazine. With DOGSRED, the
author returns to his sports roots, betting on an intense and emotional
narrative set in the icy north of Japan.
